If you were wondering how to make raw organic pumpkin seed butter well the homemade recipe is quite simple. This multi-purpose whole food is packed with nutritional properties that benefit healthy skin. This natural butter has a slightly sweet, bitter and earthy flavour and can be used as a spread or dip, it can also be used as a thickening agent in salad dressings, soups and vegan pasta sauces as well. You can always substitute lightly toasted or roasted pumpkin seeds for the raw kind if you prefer a more smokey taste.

Storing in your fridge is best as it keeps the natural oils fresh, preserves its nutrients and the butter blends cohesion is better kept intact, as well its shelf life will last at least several months. Always make sure you are preparing the butter with fresh seeds.

*Please note that this process can put a strain on your food processer, pay close attention to its motor and don’t allow it to overheat. Pause, let the unit cool and continue if necessary.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw pumpkinseeds (pepitas for best results)

  • Food processor (powerful sturdy unit)
  • Jar or container
  • Spoon or spatula

Storage

  • Refrigerator (is best)

Preparation

  • Measure 2 cups of raw pumpkin seeds (makes 1 cup of butter)
  • Ready food processor

Method

  1. Pour pumpkin seeds into food processer
  2. Start processing
  3. Soon the seeds will turn into a dry meal.
  4. The dry meal will soon turn into a finer moist texture, loosen from the sides of the food processor with a spoon or spatula when necessary.
  5. Continue to process into clumps, be careful to take breaks if your food processor becomes too hot.
  6. Finally the clumps will dissolve into a wonderfully smooth pumpkin seed butter.
