If you’re wondering how to make this easy, versatile and hardy side dish read on. This style of braised red cabbage and kale can be served hot or cold, and can be whipped up on your oven’s stovetop in under 30mins. Traditionally this savory recipe is served at dinner, but can also be enjoyed for breakfast and lunch. Its two prime vegetables contain many of the properties that promote healthy skin, they include antioxidant support, collagen and elastin development, and strengthening the dermis. As a bonus it’s also low in calories.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 2 cups: Red Cabbage (purple)
  • 2 cups: Kale
  • 3 cloves: Garlic
  • 1 medium: Onion
  • 1 cup: Beef bone broth (substitute: vegetable broth)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. Toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp. red wine vinegar (substitute: cider vinegar)
  • Salt + black pepper (to taste)

Cooking Utensils

  • Chopping knife
  • Cutting board
  • Pot
  • Stovetop

Preparation

  • Mince garlic
  • Dice onions
  • Rinse and chop red cabbage and kale into ½ inch lengths

Method

  1. Heat olive oil over medium to high temperature
  2. Add onions, garlic and sauté until softened
  3. Add red cabbage, kale, 1 tbsp. sesame seeds, chicken bone broth, sprinkle with salt and pepper (to taste), and stir
  4. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Add red wine vinegar and stir
  6. Plate and garnish with remaining ½ tbsp. sesame seeds
  7. Serve
